CHADRON – Two Chadron State College graduates had their research with Dr. Mathew Brust, Chadron State College professor of life sciences and one of Nebraska’s leading grasshopper experts, published in the Kansas Entomological Society Journal and online at BioOne.

David Keim and Tanner Jenkins, along with Brust, centered their studies during the fall of 2013 and spring of 2014 on new distribution records for Nebraska short-horned grasshoppers. The results were originally published in late 2015 and recently made available online. Keim of Bridgeport, Nebraska, is the science teacher at Crawford High School, and Jenkins of Oshkosh, Nebraska, is a graduate student at Oklahoma State University.

Keim and Jenkins helped Brust research 36 new Nebraska county records, collected since 2008, and two new state records primarily from three sources of specimens, including Brust’s, most housed in the CSC Entomology Collection.

The project was supported by a Research Institute Grant through CSC's Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
